How does a HIFU face treatment work?
The highly focused ultrasound energy creates thermal coagulation zones at three different selected depths 4.5mm /3.0mm /1.5mm following which a wound healing response results in the formation of new collagen, thus providing a longer term tightening of the skin.
Generally a noticeable improvement in the patients facial contouring, lines and wrinkles will be visible within a 1-4 week period, whilst further improvement in skin tightening and wrinkles will be reportedly seen up to 6 months. These three layers are consequently targeted by firing ultrasound beams into the skin at depths of 1.5mm, 3.0mm, and 4.5mm, the latter penetrating the muscular layer. Depths of the ultrasound will vary depending on the areas of the face. This is because the skin is thinner and more sensitive around the mouth and above the eyes. Therefore, we use a much lower level of ultrasound.
Once the multiple ultrasound beams have penetrated the skin, they converge at focused points at whichever depth is appropriate.
